Spieljochbahn, Fügen

Barefoot summit trail

Experience nature in a different way: No matter if it is a warming bark mulch, fine or coarse pebbles. Your senses are awakened right next to the trail to the summit cross and nature is experienced in a new way. This path is also an adventure path for children. Therefore: shoes and stockings and allow yourself and your feet a few minutes of freedom.

Water fun park Spieljoch

The new, fully accessible gondola lift takes you quickly and comfortably to the fantastic family world of adventure on the Spieljoch. While the kids play around in the water fun park, the parents enjoy the dreamlike view on the rest and detention possibilities.

Relax- & Balancepark

After a short walk from the mountain station down to the reservoir lakes, a climbing and sliding slide awaits you on the northern dam crest of the large reservoir lake, which leads you directly to the small reservoir lake. A beautiful walk around the lake invites you to further offers.

Öxltal Mine on Spieljoch

Learn about the Fügen/Hochfügen mining tradition. The Öxeltal Show Mine can be reached via a miner´s trail from the cable car top station in about 45min. The mine is set at an altitude of 1,783m and can only be accessed with a certified guide who will tell you many interesting details about 400 years of mining history.

Climbing on the climbing wall & on the via ferrata


What is a holiday in the mountains without climbing. Here we offer the first steps to the right tread, grip, and abseil safety. Everything under professional supervision. A guide can be booked for the first summit on the adjacent via ferrata. In bad weather, we also offer the treadle, grip and abseil training indoor in the mountain station.

Flying Fox

Experience a spectacular flight on one of the highest flying fox in Tirol. The unique opportunity to get back to the starting point after a summit climb over a taut wire rope at the Adler dive speed. The family-friendly combined tour consisting of the children's climbing trail and subsequent flying fox will be accompanied by one of our experienced outdoor guides.

Spieljoch monster scooter

Monster scooters offer the ultimate in downhill fun for the whole family. The trail starts right next to the summit station and carries on down the forest road directly to the halfway station. If you still have the energy, you can ride with a guide right down to the valley station.


Crystal Mine for stone and rock crystal removal! In 60-minute supervision, the children experience the search for rock crystals on the crystal water basin and the filling of their leather bags.

Nepal Brücke


Some call it simply the "test of courage", the others, pure adrenaline. At the three-line overvoltage on the big "Kaunzbucht" at Spieljoch.

Our skill ropes course has been rebuilt and is located about 5 minutes walk above the mountain station.

Zillertal Arena

Rosenalmbahn, Zell am Ziller

Spruce Tree Castle and Spruce Lake

The fun factor at the fairy tale Spruce Tree Castle high above Zell am Ziller on the Rosenalm is greater than ever, with an over 5,000-square-metre area to entertain Spruce Sprites of all ages – see the story on pages 22 and 23. While the new wooden ball track requires a certain level of skill, the hammock forest offers pure comfort. And a bit of relaxation is definitely good for you after all the action. After all, you’re sure to want to whiz down the slide tower several times, climb the 18-metre viewing tower and clamber around on the climbing tower too. The many water games and the sandpit area also have to be tried, of course. To put it succinctly: Spruce Springs have plenty to keep them busy!

Culinary Trail

This leisurely walk for the whole family will never lose its appeal. Signs by the side of the road show many different kinds of Zillertal delicacies, all of which can be sampled once you have reached your destination, the romantic Kreuzwiesenalm culinary hut. But the hut doesn’t only offer delicious treats on its sun terrace; you will also receive a reward for the hike you have completed – a little bookof recipes that will help you cook numerous Zillertal specialties for yourself when you return home.

Playground at the basestation

Climbing and jumping in the adventure playground at the Zillertal Arena, children come completely at theire expense. Parents from bigger children lean back an watch, parents of smaller children support the younger generation on theire exporatory expedition.

Singletrail Wiesenalm

The Singletrail Wiesenalm offers excitement at its very finest. The 5.2 km long trail's desing not only means it's perfect for sports-mad beginners, but also that it offers a wide new experience for bikers who already know the scene well. The trail's numerous serpentines, northshore elements and pumps will demand that riders show their levels of skill and condition from start to finish!

After making a gentle ascent on the Rosenalmbahn lift and getting off at the midstation, bikers can start down the easy/moderately difficult Singletrail, riding mainly forested terrain over a change in altitude of 700 metres, before finally arriving at the bottom station on the Rosenalmbahn.

Arena Coaster

The tobogganing fun in the Zillertal Valley inspires not only the kids: fun, action and speed await you on the Alpine rollercoaster in the Zillertal Valley. The 1,450 m of coaster fun begins right at the Zillertal Arena Valley Station in Zell and promises to be the biggest summer and winter attraction with its many waves, steep curves and jumps. A 360° loop and a 540° loop will get adrenaline pumping even more.

Gerlossteinbahn Hainzenberg

Via ferrata "Gerlossteinwand"

The 380 meter long fixed-rope climbing route, "Gerlossteinwand", leads along a 240 meter high wall on the same-named mountain. It doesn't only offer Alpine pleasures, but also leads to one of the valley's most beautiful peaks. Introductory trial climbs for beginners are offered on the new route, categorized as medium difficult, which was constructed by the local mountain rescue team, in cooperation with the Zillertal Arena.

Arena Skyliner

A new flying machine and a further development of the Flying Fox, provides even more fun, action and an incomparable bird’s-eye view to all Arena guests! The Arena Skyliner runs on 4 routes with a length of up to 738 m and hurtles with a maximum speed of 50 km/h over the Gerlosstein region.

Isskogelbahn Gerlos

Children’s playground Latschenalm Gerlos

The children's playground is versatile and well planned. A large terrain with different playground equipment, balance exercises and information about the animals and the flowers on the alp, make the hike to the restaurant Latschenalm exciting. Once you arrive at the destination, a small animal garden and a huge playground await you right next to the sun terrace. Passing the Alpchapel, a path leads up to the Latschensee, where you can also risk a jump into the water on sunny days.

Wooden ball tracks Isskogel

There’s fun to be had for the whole family at the top station of the Isskogel cable car: Here children’s dreams come true on two 150-metre-long wooden ball tracks. The little ones will watch on with fascination as the wooden balls work their way through some tricky passages on their way to the end. Funnelsspirals, a wave track and a labyrinth are just a few of them. There’s nothing to get bored with here! The ball track can be used free of charge; balls can be purchased for just €2. The balls can then be taken home as a souvenir.

Singletrails Isskogel

The perfect single trails for all bikers! The varied trails in Zell am Ziller and Gerlos offer the ideal challenge for everyone from beginners to pros. They span a total of 12 kilometres to form a spectacular panoramic route and can also be conveniently reached with the cable cars.

Königsleiten Dorfbahn

Yodel Hiking Trail

Everyone can learn how to yodel. Austria's first “Yodel Hiking Trail” is located in Wald-Königsleiten, on the Gerlospass, and can be reached via Zillertal or Salzachtal. Hiking between eight interactive stations – such as a massive, walk-in cowbell, and the largest alpine horn in Europe – you’ll hear audio recordings of simple yodels, which can be easily copied. The Yodel trail connects you from the top station of the village’s cable car, via Larmachalm, back to Königsleiten, and can be visited by anyone for free.

GipfelLiner Königsleiten

With the GipfelLiner you soar over the reservoir attached to a 430-metre long steel rope. Between the 3-metre high starting platform at an impressive altitude of 2,300 metres and the landing platform at the end you cover an elevation drop of no fewer than 65 metres. An over-the-water experience for young and old alike that you’ll remember for a long time to come – with an adrenaline rush thrown in for good measure!

Ahornsee lake & Ahornbachl stream

Everyone big and small will find plenty of opportunities to play, rest, and relax at lake Ahornsee. There’s a fantastic walking trail along the Ahornbachl stream with various play areas and water oases, making it a great place to enjoy yourself.

Leisure Place near the Ahornbahn Summit Station

The area in front of the Ahornbahn Summit Station was transformed into a Leisure Place with lots of comfortable seating to help you sit back and relax. Practical and fun handcarts can be rented at the Ahornbahn Summit Station.

Leisure Trail Ahorn

The Leisure Trail, which is suitable for baby buggies, leads across the entire Ahorn Plateau and provides an exceptional experience for the young as well as the young at heart. In summer 2017, various leisure and wellness points that engage all of the senses were added to the trail. Their creations will then be on display along the trail. In addition to the Zillertal, Stilluptal and Filzenalm Viewing Platforms, the Eagle’s View Viewing Platform provides visitors young and old with the feeling of sitting in a big eagle’s nest equipped with a binocular. If you look closely, you will even be able to catch sight of all sorts of highlights in the distance.

Ahornbahn Hiker's Gondola

June until September, early birds and anyone planning to spend a long day in the mountains can ride the Ahornbahn, Austria's largest gondola, up to the Ahorn Plateau as early as 7.30 am in every weather. Be sure to take advantage of this unique opportunity to enjoy the early morning calm on Leisure Mountain Ahorn.

Show farm Filzenalm

At the show farm on the Filzenalm with dwarf sheeps, pygmy pigs, pygmy goats, chickens and ducks complete the Ahorn family experience and are a magnet for kids and adults.

Summit Experience Filzenkogel

The hiking trail to the Filzenkogel offers big and small summit seekers alike the opportunity to immortalize themselves in the summit book and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Zillertal Alps.

Sunrise Gondola on Leisure Mountain Ahorn

Every Thursday from 2nd July, the Ahornbahn whisks sun lovers and romantics up to the Ahorn Plateau before daybreak. Enjoy an unforgettable sunrise! Our tip for all mountaineers: Start your hike to the Ahornspitze or the Aschaffenburger Höhenweg early in the morning! Tickets can be booked via






Eagle's Stage Ahorn

When as many as 800 spectators hold their breath at the same time, you can really feel the excitement at the Eagle’s Stage Ahorn in Mayrhofen im Zillertal. That’s where the kings of the sky hover just inches above the heads of spectators before diving down to grab some bait, providing for some unforgettable moments at 2,000 meters above sea level. Accompanied by his wife Waltraud, Didi Wechselberger, manager of the highest-altitude Birds of Prey station in Europe, lets you experience these aerial acrobats up close and in action.

Because of construction works for a reservoir near the Eagle’s Stage Ahorn, there probably won’t be any Birds of Prey Shows during the 2020 summer season. Visitors can enter the Eagle’s Stage Ahorn free of charge from July to September, Sunday to Thursday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Falconers Waltraud, Thomas, and Didi Wechselberger with their Birds of Prey are looking forward to seeing you there. Please note that there might be restrictions and that daily schedules are subject to changes due to the construction works.


Motorik Parcours on Mount Penken

You can test your coordination skills at the Funsportstation in the Motorik Parcours for the whole family. Experience for the whole family!

Panorama Trail Penken

The Panorama Trail on Action Mountain Penken is suitable for baby buggies and takes you from the Kombibahn Penken or Penkenbahn mountain station Summit Station up to the Garnet Chapel at the Penkenjoch and down to the Penkenbahn Summit Station. The trail leads past several places where you can see athletes in action. For example, you can watch daring climbers scaling rock faces at the Knorren Massif or observe real adrenalin junkies taking off at the two paragliding launch sites. There are also various stations where you have the opportunity to experience the sports action firsthand via simulations as well as lookouts that provide a close-up view of the mountains in Mayrhofen.


Via ferrata set rental at the Funsportstation

The rental station for via ferrata sets is also located at the Funsportstation at the Penken Reservoir. All rentals are subject to availability. Rental € 3,50 per climbing set.

Knorren climbing area

For those who want to get a tast of the vertical world, there are two via ferratas at the Knorren Climbing Area on Action Mountain Penken. The Knorren Nadel Via Ferrata is suitable for beginners and advanced at the foot of the Knorren Climbing Area. With its two rope bridges and the viewing platform on top of the Knorrennadel you should be prepared for a touch of vertigo.

In the lower third of the Knorren wall you find the Steinbock Via Ferrata, which is designed for more advanced climbers. After a steep start you are rewarded with impressive views of the Zillertal Alps.

You can reach the Knorren Climbing Area by taking the 3S Penkenbahn in Mayrhofen followed by the Kombibahn Penken. 

Mountain biking on Action Mount Penken

Penken is the perfect mountain because it is suitable for everyone. After all, biking way up in the mountains is the best, thanks to the breathtaking views, the crystal clear air, and the amazing feeling of being so high above everyday life down below. In just over eight minutes, the comfortable Penkenbahn takes guests from the center of Mayrhofen up to the Summit Station at 1790 meters above sea level. Whoever wants to get even higher can continue up on one of the open-air gondolas of the Kombibahn Penken. You can easily take your bike along on either ropeway. Once at the summit, you will find various mountain bike tours for all skill levels.

Paragliding Penken

Experience the feeling of freedom and the spectacular views on a tandem flight from the Action Mountain Penken to Mayrhofen. Mayrhofen is bookmarked by paragliders for its outstanding thermals. Take off to the skies and enjoy the amazing feeling of flying!

E-Trial Parcours on Mount Penken

A good sense of balance and a dose of courage are most definitely needed by any kids, teenagers or adults who want to complete adventure trials on the E-Trial parcours on the Action Mountain Penken.


Funsportstation at Penken

Are you looking for a very special mountain experience? If so, head on up to the Funsportstation, located 2,000 meters above sea level at the Penken. That’s where action lovers big and small will find exciting Mountain Scooters and huge Funballz for sporty experiences that you don’t get just any ol’ day. Discover the mountain on action-packed downhill rides, roll on water without getting wet, or fight gravity as you climb up high on the via ferrata at the Knorren-Action Mountain Penken lives up to its name in summer as well.

Pepi’s Kinderland at Finkenberg

You can’t miss him! After all, Pepi the bear is eight metres tall and the head of the Pepis Kinderland kids’ area. The giant wooden bear sits atop the Penkenjoch and offers his visitors plenty of fun and excitement. Inside him, you’ll find the ultimate children’s playground spread over three different levels. Not only is there a crawl tunnel, a playhouse and a distorting mirror, but also a climbing wall and many other attractions. And when you’ve had enough of playing, tumbling and climbing, simply say goodbye to the giant Pepi as you whiz away down a slide. Just by the “Penkenpepi” is a large children’s play area with balance beams, trampolines, a sandpit and plenty of other opportunities to let loose. 

Since summer 2018 the hearts of all little climbers beat faster. A brand new low rope course with 30 different obstacles can test your climbing skills in low-level safety and the second, a 15 m long tube slide, which is reached by a hanging bridge, inducing a tummy tingling flip!

Reservoir Penkenjoch & Capella Granata

The reservoir at the Penkenjoch plateau was created in 2013. It is 11 meters deep and has a capacity of more than 70,000 cubic meters of water. In winter it feeds the snow cannons on the slopes, in summer it not only offers peace and quiet but also a stunning view. The Granatkapelle chapel which is directly located at the reservoir incorporates local timber, and the natural beauty of garnets, which have been mined in the nearby Stillup valley for centuries.

The "Nature world"

Experience the nature with all your senses! Comprehend and understand ... Mother Nature has created extraordinary and unique habitat for all of us. Starting point of the natural world is the middle station of the “Finkenberger Almbahnen.” From there many different habitats along the marsh trail are here to explore. The special moorland soil can be discovered and closely examined through an experiment. A short break in the hanging chairs or in the listening island, where the sounds of the environment can be perceived much more intensively and consciously, displaced children and adults in deep amazement. Shortly before the end of the walk the unique island of relaxation in the middle of the fairytale forest is achieved. This walk is an unique experience for nature lovers!


Almspielerei Eggalm

The brand-new children's paradise "Almspielerei" (alpine games) offers a wealth of play areas just waiting to be put through their paces around the top station of the Eggalmbahn. A large lake with tug boat, a float and slackline, wooden alpine animals together with a plethora of diverse activities brings the promise of huge amounts of fun for the whole family, while becoming acquainted with the natural habitat of the alpine pasture "Alm". 

Eggalm hiking rally

Tricky puzzles, guessing games and the discovery of nature - even our littlest hikers can get into the hiking groove. Simply grab the Rally-card from the ticket office at the bottom station Eggalmbahn and let the fun begin! Intriguing questions just waiting to be solved await the inquisitive explorer. Just collect three different stamps of a possible eight from Eggalm hiking region and return the card to the bottom station to collect a great free gift! All this and more makes summer vacations in Zillertal so much fun for all the family.

Luis' Kugelsafari

A highlight awaits hikers of all ages at the Hintertux Glacier. Three exciting ball runs and a  ball tower are waiting to be discovered in Luis‘ Kugelsafari.

Glacier Safari - the thrilling adventure trail in the Summerbergalm hiking area - has yet another attraction. Children will be excited to discover three new wooden ball runs nestled between the interactive stations. Fascinated, the little ones will be able to watch and follow their wooden balls, which have to overcome numerous obstacles on their way to the finish.

Calling all glacier bugs!
An exciting adventure course awaits at the Sommerberg walking region, combined with some brain-teasing questions. Accompanied by our glacier mascot, Luis, young detectives will set off on an exciting hike in search of a mystery treasure! Young glacier investigators can explore interactive stations and learn all about the mystery of the glacier. Pick up a treasure map from the cash desk at the base terminal of the glacier lifts in Hintertux. Join in and help us solve the mystery! And then: “Ready, set and off we go on safari!”

The „Water world“ Hintertux

Dive into the fascinating world of water! Visitors experience the fascinating and unique world of the water. Even from a distance you can see the "Floating Faucet", who is also the start and end point of the hike. How much water do we need? What are thermal springs? These questions are answered along the trail. Together with the mascot "Gletscherfloh Luis" adults and children discover the power of water and the transformation ability of the essential natural element. Courage and a good deal of skill is required at the large waterfall swing and target shooting with water pumps. For all nature lovers and knowledge seekers this enjoyable hike is just right!

Flea park Sommerberg

The Sommerberg Flea park at 2,100 m is another attractive playground for families with children. Overlooking the Sommerbergalm Restaurant, the Flea park is home to well secured play areas such as a climbing wall, bouncy castle, giant slide and the all time favourite go-cart track. Young glacier fans enjoy plenty of space to mess around while parents can keep an eye on their children from the comfort of the spacious sun terrace.

Nature’s Ice Palace

Nature’s Ice Palace at the Hintertux Glacier is a natural gem, unique worldwide and an ideal year round excursion destination for the whole family. The entrance to this ice cave is only a 3 to 4 minute walk from the top station of the glacierbus 3 lift. On guided tours, visitors are asked to „Step inside” to this wonderful world deep beneath the ski slopes and discover a glacial crevasse with magical ice stalactites, giant sparkling ice crystals, frozen waterfalls which you can even discover by a boat trip on the natural glacier lake (currently only with prior registration). Real adventurers can also try out Stand Up Paddling or Ice Swimming. 

The Natural Geological Monument Spannagel Cave

A geological peculiarity is a stretch of marble - consisting of crystalline limestone - that extends from Hintertux south to the Spannagelhaus. Located in this marble is the Spannagel Cave network with its numerous natural wonders. Throughout the year the professional guides take visitors on a tour (from October to May only with advance notification, equipment and boots will be provided).

Guided Glacier Tour

Glaciers are, and always will be, an amazing natural attraction. Whatever the season, glaciers never cease to amaze with their extraordinarily powerful appearance. Ice sheets, crevasses, craggy rock faces and undulating fields of snow are formidable proof of the power of nature. Exploring the Hintertux Glacier with a certified guide is a particularly exciting experience. Not only will you discover interesting information about a glacier’s physical characteristics, but also learn about glaciology, glacial formation and growth, the effects and expansion of ice on earth.
