Our secret spots are places where you can experience nature in all its facets – the bubbling of a mountain stream, the scent of alpine flowers, the wind rustling through the leaves or fresh grass between your toes. If you just close your eyes and feel all these sensations, you are sure to experience a feeling of pure freedom and happiness as well. Amidst all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you sometimes need a place just like this to help you relax and concentrate on what is really important in life.
Magical tranquillity
Once you have passed Märzengrund, you’ll enter a broad alpine meadow in an idyllic setting: this is the hidden gem that is Gmünd. The crystal-clear waters of the Märzen stream flow through this sunny valley, where cows graze and butterflies dance around the flowers. Just breathe in the summer air; the whole valley is permeated by a soothing tranquillity that pleases mind and body.
Mirror, mirror on the lake
When the weather is fine and the mountain air clear, the magic of Schwarzsee is revealed. This is when the water’s surface reflects the peaks of the Zillertal Alps – a truly breathtaking sight. Schwarzsee is Tyrol’s most beautiful mountain lake, located at an altitude of 2,472m at the very end of the Zemmgrund valley.
Vigil of the Stone men
Hundreds of them stand, proud and immovable, on a stony expanse. It looks almost as if these cairns – stone men erected by hikers – are standing guard here at an altitude of 2,672m. Without a doubt, the Petersköpfl in the High Alps Nature Park Zillertal, is a magical summit.
Intoxicating colour
The whooshing sound is everywhere; it seems close one moment, far away the next. For centuries, the ice-cold glacial water has found its way from the Olperer and Gefrorene Wand mountains and down into the valley, racing through deep gorges, caves and ravines.
